Coming from the design industry, I love seeing the colors of the year announced by major color giants like Pantone, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams. Sometimes these colors are spot on with design trends and sometimes they feel like they come from left field, but either way, the insights that they provide for styles, industry moods and global readings are always quite fascinating to me. While last year’s colors of the year proclaimed loud pink tones, this year we see quite a split when it comes to color forecasting. With colors of the year ranging from fresh peach palettes to soft blues to deep indigos, each of these 2024 color of the year options seem both fitting for the design trends we see emerging while simultaneously being extremely different from one another. Much like the trends we saw in 2023, I believe 2024 designs will be characterized by color, texture and pattern as more people are branching away from all whites and cool grays and instead leaning into more natural and colorful options. Even Farrow & Ball, who doesn’t select one main color of the year, but instead a palette of colors, displays options that vary from warm clay toned paints to soft browns and neutrals. Warmth, interest, historical perspectives and comforting palettes are all on the mind, which to be honest, I am totally here for! So, whether you are looking to change up your home this year or simply are curious about what’s going on in the industry, let’s dive into these colors and five easy ways to bring the 2024 color of the year into your home!
Pantone Peach Fuzz 13-1023
While last year’s Viva Magenta selection by Pantone was bold and highly saturated, this year’s Peach Fuzz exudes warmth and connection. Selected to “radiant with warmth and modern elegance” as well as “resonate with compassion” and “offer a tactile embrace”, Peach Fuzz is a color focused on the feeling of community, kindness and a sense of belonging (Pantone). For a world that craves connection following the revolution of technology and recent years of pandemic lockdowns, Peach Fuzz seems perfectly fitting. Colorful but not overwhelming, warm yet not aged, this happy shade has been used for centuries through folk traditions, art and design and even today has largely become known as the Gen-Z version of ‘millennial pink’ with its sense of comfort, nostalgia and popularity.
Benjamin Moore Blue Nova 825
Moving from Pantone’s Peach Fuzz, we come to Benjamin Moore’s Blue Nova. Also a unique color with classic appeal, Blue Nova carefully walks the line between a violet and blue. A sophisticated, reassuring mid tone, this color is one you easily could see used in both an extremely modern and very traditional sense. Again, like Peach Fuzz, Blue Nova is a saturated option that doesn’t shy away from being bold, however the subtle muddy tones prevent the color from being too bright and overpowering. Whether used for color drenching a room or simply as an accent tone, Blue Nova is sure to make a statement.
Sherwin Williams Upward 6239
As I mentioned previously, the 2024 color of the year from each company varied widely, but I believe each color wonderfully captured the variety of interest and style within the design industry as a whole. On one hand, statement moody designs are popular, but still the ever classic light, airy palette remains as well. No color could have demonstrated this variety better in relation to Peach Fuzz and Blue Nova, than Sherwin Williams Upward. A soft, breezy, tranquil blue, Upward emphasizes the move towards integrating color, even if just a hint. Light and soft, this light blue still provides a calm sophisticated palette, and in some environments may even read as almost neutral. Like Peach Fuzz, this color was selected for its contented, communal and positive feeling.
Integrate The 2024 Color Of The Year into your home
Whether you are more interested in light, sophisticated designs or a bold and moody palette, the 2024 color of the year options provide so many unique ways to integrate them into your home. Here are some of my favorite ways to introduce new colors into a space along with a few items to help you do so!
Rethink Your Paint
While this first option seems the most typical, there are so many ways to think about accenting one of these colors beyond just painting your walls. With historical design references on the rise, so are the classic methods of color drenching (painting everything, walls, trim, ceiling etc. in a single color), contrast trim (of varying colors and intensities) and highlighted ceilings (to make use of that 5th wall!). Playing with these different paint combinations can totally change the feeling of your space, sometimes without even touching the walls at all. Likewise, you might be surprised at how painting your ceiling or color drenching your space will make even small spaces feel larger and more grand.
Add In Texture
If committing to painting a space seems like too big of a change, highlight these colors through your textural items like fabrics, drapes, pillows and rugs! A change of drapes and pillows or a refresh of a rug can totally change the aesthetic and feeling of your room without much commitment.
Add In Wallpaper
While this method tends to be more controversial, wallpaper has made a HUGE comeback in recent years and can be such a fun way to accent each of these colors. Whether through a bold and beautiful paper or soft and subtle option, adding in a pop of wallpaper can totally transform your space. Even beyond this, amp up your wallpaper design by adding a contrast trim or ceiling in a color coordinated from the paper. This effect not only will make your space feel completely different, but it also can create a statement potentially without changing your furnishings at all (assuming they still coordinate with your paint / pattern selection).
Style With Art
I believe art is one of my favorite ways to introduce new colors. Whether you are using a piece of art as your launch point of color or are using an item as a total contrast within the design, art, regardless of whether printed or original, can help to define your space and style.
Integrate Unique Accessories & Tablewares
Lastly, but certainly not least, don’t forget about your accessories and dishware! Accenting a new color can easily come through small pieces placed purposefully. Whether a coffee table book, mug set, platter or lamp, accessories can coordinate with art, paint, textiles or wallpaper in a subtle way to reintroduce the color very subliminally.

Final Thoughts
Whether you are interested in design trends or are looking to completely refresh your space, these 2024 color of the year options provide SO many great launching points to transform an environment. Currently in an apartment, I can’t lean into many of the more permanent paint or wallpaper options, however when we are in a house again, I would love to explore more wallpapers (I have been hooked since our powder room transformation last year!), contrast trim or accent ceilings with color. In the meantime though, I am loving these colors and the design implications they bring! What about you? Would you use one of these 2024 colors of the year? For a bold bedroom or subtle living space perhaps? Let me know in the comment section below and be sure to save for later!
Happy designing!
