Our gallery wall is complete 🤍🩷💙 While w Our gallery wall is complete 🤍🩷💙 While we have been collecting art throughout our apartment to document our expat adventures these past 18 months, I have to say our most recent addition for the last frame of our gallery wall is my favorite and, I believe, our greatest adventure yet because.... Baby Duncan is arriving this winter!! It feels so surreal to share this with you and while we would never have imagined welcoming our first baby across the world, we are overjoyed for this little miracle. Truly, all glory and praise to our Lord who can bring beauty from brokenness and do immeasurably more than we can ask, imagine or dream. I think sharing a good cup of hot tea (or coffee!) I think sharing a good cup of hot tea (or coffee!) with cake might just be my love language 🥰 is it yours? Some of the closest, most treasured people in my life have memories surrounding warm drink rituals cataloged in my mind with them. A warm drink to soothe the soul and savor in the moment; a cup of tea helps life’s worries just disappear and reset me into the present. Much like a cup of tea, using fresh, seasonal produce highlights the best of the season and helps to re-center my gaze on the everyday beauties that are just before me. While here today, they might perhaps be gone tomorrow, so let’s soak in the Lord’s beauty that graces the now ❤️ As I have noted before, since moving to Germany a year and a half ago, I have become much more keenly aware of these little rhythms and now find as many opportunities as possible to incorporate seasonal goodies into our daily routines. Oktoberfest: a Munich tradition spread to the worl Oktoberfest: a Munich tradition spread to the world This past Sunday wrapped up Oktoberfest festivities, bringing Munich's biggest folk festival to a close and the Ubahn crowd levels back to normal (that is until the Christmas markets!!) Living here in Munich for the past year and a half, Charlie and I have gotten to see firsthand the masses of Trachten wearing guests and have heard from both locals and visitors alike the best (and worst!) parts of this festival. That being said, my most recommended Oktoberfest festivities to enjoy are: - the opening parade - the Oide Wiesn - the food! If you're thinking of visiting, here are a few tips... 🚂 While Budapest is the most popular city in Hungary, Eger often ranks among the top three most visited cities. Take a train, tour or car (about 2 hours away) to visit this charming region! 🏰 Explore the Eger Castle - a blend of original structures, reconstructions and ruins, the castle brings some of the best views of the city and insights to the incredible victory over the Ottoman Turks in 1552 ⛪ Visit the Cathedral Basilica of St. John The Apostle - one of the largest cathedrals in Hungary, the Eger Basilica is a stunning display of classical craftsmanship. Definitely a must see! 📷 Overlook from the Eger Minaret - climb the spiral stairs of the best surviving minaret in Hungary to take in birds eye views of the city! 📚 Stop by the Archdiocese Library - one of my favorite places we visited, this library is a work of art with its warm wooden shelving, painted domed ceiling, library ladders and corner spiral staircases... If you're a book / library lover, then you must visit! 🍫 Get your chocolate fix at Stühmer Chocolate & Pastry Shop - perfect for pastries, ice cream or chocolate, Hungarian chocolatier Stühmer is a delicious stop! 🍷Shop, Wine & Dine - As Eger is located within one of Hungary’s primary wine growing regions, they are known for their specialty wines (particularly their “Bull’s Blood”), the Valley Of The Beautiful Woman (a top local venue for regional wine tasting) and dozens of charming local restaurants / shops with a plethora of wonderful foods 🛎️ Stay at 1552 Boutique Hotel - for wonderful service, stylish designs, great food and an ideal location, the 1552 Boutique Hotel of Eger can’t be beat! Whether you are visiting Eger for their cuisine, thermal baths, historic castle or beautiful architecture, there is something to visit for everyone in this quaint Hungarian city!
