34 weeks down, 18 to go! The realization that this year has been going so incredibly fast really hit me last night as we celebrated the first Sunday dinner of the school year.  As my brother, sister in law and their friends joined us around our table once again, I realized just how quickly time flies, as it seemed like yesterday that they were first joining us on the cooking through Magnolia Table journey back at week 4’s Tomato Basil Soup. Here we are though, 30 weeks later, and I tell you the journey has been such a sweet one, and certainly one that I recommend for anyone that is wishing to grow both their culinary palettes and local community. That being said, this week brought us two delicious recipes which both were thoroughly enjoyed: Baked Brie (p.150) and Jo’s Fatayar (p.244).

Baked Brie

Baked Brie is one of those recipes that I have been longing to try for some time. After having seen so many wonderful recipe versions of Baked Brie on social media, I was thrilled to finally try Joanna Gaines’ twist, and truly it was delicious. The crunchy pecans, sweet brown sugar and melty cheese pair wonderfully with crisp apples and make for an all around delicious appetizer. While this recipe is best enjoyed when fresh from the oven, it does reheat nicely (in the oven again)  should you have any leftovers.

Crowd Average Rating:

While only Charlie and I got to enjoy this recipe, we enjoyed every bite, leading this Baked Brie to gain an  average rating of 7.5! The gooey cheese, pecans and apples definitely give this appetizer all the fall feels, so if you are looking for something to serve at your next fall gathering, this recipe certainly would be a great addition.

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 34 Review - Baked Brie

Jo’s Fatayar

When I first noticed that this would be the meal for our kickoff Sunday dinner, I was a little curious on how it would be received based on the unusual name. Thankfully though, as I read the recipe, I saw that it would likely be a winner with the combination of meat, cheese, potatoes, onions and biscuits, and certainly it was. Jo’s Fatayar were delicious meat hand pies that would be especially perfect for any occasions calling for easy individual servings (ie. super bowl party, tailgates, holiday get togethers etc). Similarly, the fresh Lebanese salad proved to be a wonderful light companion that balanced the heaviness of the hand pies. Despite just having a dressing of lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper, this salad is full of flavor while letting each vegetable be a star of the show.

Crowd Average Rating:

Despite some members of our party preferring the Fatayar and some preferring the Lebanese salad, this recipe gained an overall average rating of 8! With individual ratings ranging from a 6 to a 10, this meal was generally well liked and primarily gained ratings of 7’s or 8’s. On the whole, the Fatayar was particularly well received, while the Lebanese salad preference largely depended on whether or not you already like tomatoes and cucumbers. Even still, this recipe was well enjoyed and certainly will be coming back around our table in the future!

Charlie absolutely loves Pimiento cheese, so I can’t wait to try this recipe to see if it will become a favorite!

Final Thoughts

As this upcoming week’s recipes include one stamped with the “served at Magnolia Table” stamp, I am sure that we are coming upon a week of delicious meals. It has been a while since we had a recipe with this stamp, so I am very much looking forward to it. Looking back, of the “served at Magnolia Table” recipes we have had thus far, which has been your favorite?

Happy cooking!

Chloe
