What comes to mind when you think of creating a dreamy bedroom? A soft, relaxing calming space that just evokes relaxation the first moment you enter… for me, it most certainly is paint, bedding and drapes. So, when while planning for an upcoming master bedroom design project an opportunity for a collaboration with TheHues presented itself, I knew immediately that I wanted to share them with you guys! As a custom drapery manufacturer with both indoor and outdoor curtain offerings, TheHues has a plethora of options that can transform any space. With this in mind, I wanted to feature a little showcase within two dreamy bedroom schemes that play with color, pattern, and bold style, so let’s dive in!

CUSTOM DRAPERY WITH TheHues

So often when planning to add drapery to a space, the first two options to come to mind are store bought or custom made by a workroom. While reliable workrooms can be wonderful, they can be a bit challenging to source, so finding another resource like TheHues is a fabulous  option. With products ranging from outdoor curtains to indoor drapes, you can choose from an immense amount of fabric types (velvets, linens, cottons, etc.) in addition to 9 different header styles with custom measurements, memory training, lining (with varying degrees of privacy!) and tieback options as well. Each selection has a description and additional resources / helpful installation information to provide for a custom tailored look without any hassle.

While I particularly love the herringbone pattern of their Ivy drapes, the thermal nature of the Classic Velvet Blackout curtains or the linen texture of their Nara curtains, I ultimately decided on their stunning Custom Glint Drapes in Cream which feature a light shimmering texture on a linen blend base for this project. As their name implies, the Glint drapes have a luxurious glimmer to them that catches the light in a beautiful way. Available with the many options I mentioned previously, I opted for a double French pinch pleat heading type and light privacy beige lining to provide a full appearance while blocking 50-60% of light; perfect for adding privacy without being completely blackout. If you prefer greater privacy however or a different header, you certainly could select one of those options instead. I have been thoroughly impressed with the fabric and construction quality so their customizable options are certainly worth exploring.

Design Scheme 1: Bold & Luxurious

For the first dreamy master bedroom design scheme, I wanted to really lean into those three components I mentioned previously: paint, bedding and drapery. To do this, the room would first be color drenched (all walls, trim and ceiling painted in the same color) in a light blue, creating a beautiful juxtaposition with the soft cream drapes. Regarding the drapery, more is more in this scheme, so the curtains will not only flank the double window on the side, but will also stretch along the entire wall behind the bed. A trick used frequently by designers to create a rich and luxurious hospitality feel (much like Marie Flanigan designed within the bedroom at right), this design immediately helps to create a soft backdrop in the space while also being a great way to hide any unusual asymmetrical details, window placements or other undesired features of a room. In this scheme, matching lamps and the Glint drapes will be used to bring continuity to the tiered table and desk flanking the bed as nightstands.

To add a bit of bold playfulness to this dreamy scheme, I added a mix of patterns to the bedding! Mixing patterns can generally be successful if varying the scales while keeping within a similar color palette (for more tips on playing with patterns, check out this post HERE!). For this scheme, I used a bold floral pattern as a backdrop on the headboard while then adding in a small block print floral for the coverlet and standard shams, a stripe for the duvet cover and euro shams, an embroidered sheet set and a solid lumbar pillow with accent fringe to bring it all together.

Design Scheme 2: Sophisticated & Refined

For the second bedroom design scheme option, I wanted to keep things a bit more classic and feminine. Like the first scheme, the room would be color drenched in a light blue but this time the headboard would take on a more decorative shape while the Glint drapes would act as a calm, framing feature so as to not interfere with the headboard as the focal point. Unlike design scheme 1, this design will utilize matching nightstands to add a bit of classical symmetry though again the bedding will be full of pattern. With the floral headboard as the launching point, the same striped euro shams / duvet cover and embroidered sheet set will be used, this time in blue as opposed to green. A block print quilt brings in a touch of dainty floral charm while solid blue shams and a fringe edge bolster both add a sophisticated pop of color.

Final Thoughts

While both design schemes are so dreamy and would make for a lovely bedroom space, they each utilize the Glint drapes in different ways. This small change of how drapes are installed can make such a huge difference to the feel of the space, but with either way they are installed, being able to have beautiful, custom curtains is a game changer to creating a sophisticated and well designed room. While this project is still in the schematic phases, I cannot wait for the final design, so most definitely stay tuned for the grand reveal! But I would love to know! Have you worked with TheHues before or utilized drapery in either of these ways?! If you had to choose, is design scheme 1 or 2 more of your style? Let me know in the comment section below and be sure to save this post for later!

Happy designing!
