For most, your entry foyer space is the first impression someone gains of your home. Do you tend to be cluttered and hurried or organized and styled? Are you busy rushing out the door with your kids, or do you tend to invite people in to stay for a while? An entry can very much reflect your family’s personality and life needs and truly can be created to most benefit you. In addition, an entry can also be a point to invite in and ease your guests. If you do not have a closet handy, do you have a coat rack or bench for guests to set down their belongings? Or you might prefer to offer these items a rest out of sight and instead would like your entry to feel like a fresh breath of air upon arrival. However, you see your entry needing to function, allow it to become a space that best reflects not only your needs, but also your personality. To help accomplish this, here are a couple of entryway styling looks that might be helpful to inspire yours.

Sit & Stay Awhile

The Sit & Stay Awhile Entry provides a fresh approach that creates a place to put on shoes, set something down or have a last minute conversation as a guest is leaving your home. While this scheme could be taken in many different style directions, the key components of a bench with accent pillows paired with large statement art, a green fiddle leaf fig and a charming umbrella stand can make an inviting space in any home. Don’t forget to notice your horizontal surfaces either because by adding a pop of interest in your light fixture or rug, you can continue the design scheme to make your entry feel complete.

The Simple & Sweet

With a more traditional take on an entry space, the Simple & Sweet provides a classic tone with a twist. By pairing rich wood tones with a pop of color in your artwork, rug, and accent tassel on the flush mount, you can create a classy and interested aesthetic that exudes warmth and personality. Likewise, be sure to have your art reflect your own style and interests, as this can be an area that sets the tone for your family’s home. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to artwork. Both originals and prints can be wonderful when mixed together, or you can even use a less typical art medium such as framing an embroidered placemat or a letter from a loved one.

It’s A Family Affair

Great for entries that open into your living space, It’s A Family Affair entry scheme provides many beneficial elements to help support a family’s needs. By adding ottomans beneath a console, you not only create an attractive design element, but also provide additional seating should you be entertaining a large group and need to pull them up or a spot to quickly pull out to sit and tie shoes on your way out the door. Be sure to embrace the performance rug and upholstery options on the stools as well as it will help to relieve the stress of runny noses, dirty shoes or sticky hands. While I have shown this scheme with an umbrella stand, it certainly could be changed out for a basket in which to keep shoes if you tend to keep them by the door. Lastly, adding a gallery wall behind the console can be a great way to showcase your family photos. Using coordinating frames or even a mix match of frames can help to highlight memorable moments in your family’s lives.

The Space Saver

Perhaps one of the most simplistic of all, The Space Saver entry is designed with those in mind who do not have room for furniture. Depending on your home and the placement of your front door, you may not have room to add a console table, bench or chest, but that does not mean that your entry cannot be stylish or functional. The Space Saver showcases using a coat rack or hooks accented by three display plates. If you use a wallpaper within your entry, you may want the plates to be more solid and act as textural interest, while if you only have a chair rail or a painted wall, you could opt for more colorful or highly patterned plates. Either option will provide not only functionality for coats, hats and belongings, but also visual interest on your way in or out the door.

An Eclectic Twist

Filled with drama, An Eclectic Twist is sure to bring a statement to your entry. By pairing a bold rug and light fixture (which could be hung as more of a semi flush depending on your ceiling heights) with a neutral mirror and demilune console, you are able to strike a balance between eclectic interest and traditional design. Likewise, by adding in a distressed vase full of florals or greenery and a couple of coffee table books or sculptural elements, you bring warmth and life to your space. As this design does command more attention, I would recommend using this scheme if you have a substantially sized entry foyer to let the design have impact yet room to breath.

Final Thoughts

Whether more traditional, contemporary, eclectic, or rustic, you can create an entry that bursts with the personality of your family while also meeting your functional needs. Design does not have to be only attractive but can be created in a way to bring both beauty and sustainable functional life to your home.
