Do you plan regular dates with your spouse or significant other? Dates to learn something new about them, to share your heart, learn theirs and to continue pursuing the one you love? I have to say, sometimes Charlie and I are bad about planning specific dates. Married but without children yet, many of our excursions or hangouts certainly would qualify as dates, however I think there is something special when time together is called “a date”. That being said, this year we are trying to prioritize the intentional planning of dates, whether big or small, and through a bit of creativity and internet inspiration, I stumbled upon the idea of letting the alphabet encourage and inspire the dates we plan. Certainly this idea is not entirely new, however since we have started this challenge in the past few weeks, I already have loved the way that the dates and ideas can be customized for us. So, whether you are looking to give the gift of time and togetherness to your valentine this year or simply need some inspiration for ways to enjoy something new with your spouse or s/o, this alphabet dates from A to Z list is for you!

Alphabet Dating: What is it?

So, I have piqued your interest… What really is alphabet dating?! I’m so glad you asked! Alphabet dating is planning dates either weekly or bi weekly that correspond to the letter of the alphabet. If you are looking for weekly dates, then in 26 weeks or the next 6 months until mid August, you will have a launching point for each date you plan! On the flip side, if planning weekly dates doesn’t quite seem achievable, space out your alphabet dates for a year and prioritize planning one date every two weeks. For those with a love language of quality time (and even if not!), this gift of dedicated time to pursue one another weekly or biweekly can do wonders for your relationship without making it too hard to plan.

Customizable Ideas For Every Scale & Budget

Once you have decided that you want to give this idea a go, let’s plan some ideas! To get you started, I have created a list with a few date ideas for each letter while keeping in mind a variety of scales and budgets. Some items are quick dates while others could be for a whole day or weekend. Likewise, feel free to customize this list for your interests as a couple! Certainly this list can help you branch out to try new things, but also feel free to add in your favorite hobbies, restaurants, places, sports teams, concerts, movies or other ideas you find connecting with a certain letter of the alphabet.

For example, Charlie and I recently went on our “B” themed date in which we decided to try a new Italian restaurant near us called Belmondo. On the other hand, you could take one of the ideas in this list and add onto it. Using the example of “B”, instead of just going biking, you could decide to bike to your favorite coffee shop for breakfast. Or, if looking at the idea of “guitar” for “G”, you could take that as playing the guitar, learning to play the guitar or finding an event that highlights a guitarist. Either way, whether you are borrowing from this list or making your own, having a launching point for your dates can help push you to enjoy one another’s interests as well as explore new activities during your time together!

Alphabet Dates From A To Z

Final Thoughts

So far, Charlie and I have loved this version of planning alphabet dates and believe that this challenge will not only help us to get to enjoy each other more, but also the area around us as we explore places, restaurants and events with letter related names. If you wanted to make your date list more specific, you could even limit it to just restaurants, just activities or just places! Truly there are SO many great ways to integrate the Alphabet dates into life and if you take a picture or selfie at each date, you even could compile a pretty awesome collection by the end. So, I have to know… have you tried alphabet dating before? Or would you give this unique gift of time / togetherness to your spouse this upcoming Valentine’s Day? Let me know in the comment section below and feel free to send more fun ideas (all PG please :)), particularly if you are able to think of good options for hard letters like “Y” or “U”!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
