6 Helpful Tips For Hosting Overnight Guests

While I loved hosting in South Carolina, since moving to Germany our hosting has looked a little different. We still have over friends, plan celebratory showers and have little dinner parties, but we now also host many more overnight guests, as most of our family and friends coming to visit from the States are not just coming for brunch. As Charlie’s parents started their trip back to the States this morning following a fun 11 day adventure with us, I wanted to share a few helpful tips for hosting overnight guests. 1600 Miles, 13 Days, 4 Cities: Everything You Need To Know For A Road Trip Through Italy

Italy. Approximately the size of New Mexico, this country is filled with layers and layers of rich history, cultural beauty and amazing landscapes that are used for countless movie sets. As a country that consistently is within the top 10 (though normally top 5) most visited destinations in the world, Italy is known for being a siren song to many. Charlie and I also have desired to visit Italy for a number of years and after first moving to Munich, we made a list of places that we would be sad we hadn’t seen before moving back to the States. Not surprisingly, multiple Italy destinations made that list, so, instead of taking a plethora of separate trips, we decided, why not just string them all into one road trip? Thus was born our 1600 mile, 13 day, 4 city road trip. While I will break down things to do in each destination in future posts, if you are interested in stringing together several desired locations, then here is….

Southern Merger: A SC Twist On The Bavarian Cheese Board

For me, one of the many joys of living or traveling abroad has always been trying new foods. Even if you don’t quite know what you are ordering, the dishes typically end up being tasty, flavorful and a fabulous way to experience another culture. Growing up, my grandparents (who also spent time living in Germany some years ago) used to say that “trying new foods is one of the great joys of life” and I cannot agree more. While SC is very distinct from Bavaria in many ways, Charlie and I have discovered a few similarities between our South Carolina roots and our current Bavarian (southern state of Germany) life, as both regions are known within their countries for their regional dialect, warm greetings and hearty food. It was in this recent experience of hearty, delicious food, that I found the perfect opportunity to blend both of our southern experiences through a South Carolina twist on the Bavarian cheese board. If you love a classic southeast Pimento Cheese and savory German charcuterie, then you must….
