Creating A Gingerbread Christmas Tablescape To Last

The first Christmas Charlie and I were married, we set out to make a gingerbread house. We slaved over the dough, cut the right proportions, made the icing, added each detail. It was so much fun, but by the end of the process, we were exhausted! A few days later, when hosting my in-laws for Christmas Eve dinner, we were so proud to showcase our gingerbread house that we displayed it right in our dining room. Kindly, they said they were impressed…until… about halfway through our dinner, we noticed out of the corner of our eyes that our hard earned gingerbread house roof suddenly caved in and our walls came tumbling down. We all got quite the chuckle and despite our best efforts to make it last, had a funny story to tell instead. That being said, with our past experience and food prices rising, this year I wanted to make a gingerbread house that would have a little more longevity. While you can’t pop a candy in your mouth as you pass by this gingerbread house, it is fun and festive and such a great activity for kids and adults alike. By creating a gingerbread Christmas tablescape to….

How To Make A Classic Wooden Christmas Tree Collar

Every year, I try to change up our Christmas décor in some way. In years past, that change has looked like dried orange or cranberry garlands, fresh evergreen wreaths or bright red candlesticks. While we haven’t decorated our home just yet, I have been working on a few fun DIY Christmas adventures that will spruce up our home once we do. Like last week’s Anthropologie hand towel to holiday pillow creation, this week’s DIY was originally inspired by a Crate & Barrel tree collar. Typically, we have just used a white blanket as our tree base, but this year I was hoping for something a little more unique and easier to clean when our tree starts to drop its needles. It was in this mindset that I stumbled upon a gorgeous natural wooden tree collar by Crate & Barrel. Despite its on sale Black Friday price, I set out to make one similar but slightly more budget friendly. So, if you are looking for a new way to change up your Christmas décor and tree skirt, I hope this classic wooden Christmas tree collar might inspire…..

Christmas In July: Top Tips For Planning A Winter Getaway

While it might sound strange, there is something about the hot July sun of summer that makes me yearn for Christmas. As a little girl, when I would get tired of the heat, I would turn on Christmas music and use my free time to make homemade Christmas gifts for my family. While I don’t quite let myself listen to Christmas music in the summer months anymore, I do still frequently have the longing to be able to bundle up, have hot chocolate and sit around a fire. As that is the opposite of what you are able to do during a South Carolina summer, the best I can manage in letting myself down the winter road is to begin planning for a getaway in which all my winter wonderland dreams can come true. For the past two Decembers, Charlie and I have left our balmy weather and had the opportunity to take trips out west (either just together or with my family) and I have to say, if you are in a wintery Christmas mood, I highly recommend it. Now is the perfect time to plan your winter getaway this year, so I hope that these next….

3 Simple Christmas Treats For Giving As Gifts

When Charlie and I got married and moved into our first home, I was so excited to celebrate the Christmas season together. As my favorite holiday, Christmas seems to invade our lives with excitement, joy, hope and sweet anticipation. Even as a little girl, I was wrapping presents in July and setting aside the recipes for Christmas treats I wanted to try in October. So, coming upon our first married Christmas in our new home, I could not wait to try every new recipe and décor idea. After spending hours in the kitchen, days creating evergreen home displays and evenings making cranberry and orange garlands, I realized that all good things have their limits and sometimes less is more. I learned this lesson most thoroughly with the treats that I gave our neighbors. Wanting to create sweet relationships with those living near us, I worked…
