How To Make A Classic Wooden Christmas Tree Collar

Every year, I try to change up our Christmas décor in some way. In years past, that change has looked like dried orange or cranberry garlands, fresh evergreen wreaths or bright red candlesticks. While we haven’t decorated our home just yet, I have been working on a few fun DIY Christmas adventures that will spruce up our home once we do. Like last week’s Anthropologie hand towel to holiday pillow creation, this week’s DIY was originally inspired by a Crate & Barrel tree collar. Typically, we have just used a white blanket as our tree base, but this year I was hoping for something a little more unique and easier to clean when our tree starts to drop its needles. It was in this mindset that I stumbled upon a gorgeous natural wooden tree collar by Crate & Barrel. Despite its on sale Black Friday price, I set out to make one similar but slightly more budget friendly. So, if you are looking for a new way to change up your Christmas décor and tree skirt, I hope this classic wooden Christmas tree collar might inspire…..

Christmas In July: Top Tips For Planning A Winter Getaway

While it might sound strange, there is something about the hot July sun of summer that makes me yearn for Christmas. As a little girl, when I would get tired of the heat, I would turn on Christmas music and use my free time to make homemade Christmas gifts for my family. While I don’t quite let myself listen to Christmas music in the summer months anymore, I do still frequently have the longing to be able to bundle up, have hot chocolate and sit around a fire. As that is the opposite of what you are able to do during a South Carolina summer, the best I can manage in letting myself down the winter road is to begin planning for a getaway in which all my winter wonderland dreams can come true. For the past two Decembers, Charlie and I have left our balmy weather and had the opportunity to take trips out west (either just together or with my family) and I have to say, if you are in a wintery Christmas mood, I highly recommend it. Now is the perfect time to plan your winter getaway this year, so I hope that these next….

3 Simple Christmas Treats For Giving As Gifts

When Charlie and I got married and moved into our first home, I was so excited to celebrate the Christmas season together. As my favorite holiday, Christmas seems to invade our lives with excitement, joy, hope and sweet anticipation. Even as a little girl, I was wrapping presents in July and setting aside the recipes for Christmas treats I wanted to try in October. So, coming upon our first married Christmas in our new home, I could not wait to try every new recipe and décor idea. After spending hours in the kitchen, days creating evergreen home displays and evenings making cranberry and orange garlands, I realized that all good things have their limits and sometimes less is more. I learned this lesson most thoroughly with the treats that I gave our neighbors. Wanting to create sweet relationships with those living near us, I worked…

Scents Of The Season: The 5 Best Christmas Smells For Home

Have you ever walked into someone’s home at Christmas and with one breath, were instantly transported back into a childhood memory of your nana’s kitchen? If so, you know the power of scent and its strong connection to memory. For years, many believed there was such a correlation, however more recent studies have emerged to further confirm the connection between smell and memory. Studies from Boston University’s Center for Systems Neuroscience and the Harvard Museum of Natural History in collaboration with the Harvard Brain Science Initiative have found that due to the brain’s anatomy…

How To Create A Holiday Wreath To Bring On The Christmas Cheer

One of the key markers of the Christmas season in our house is the smell of a fresh Christmas tree. In addition to the exciting holiday jaunt to find the “perfect” tree, you get the joy of racing around the mountain finding limbs that are dying to be used in every Christmas décor area imaginable. With a tree on top of our car and a trunk full of Frasier Fir pieces, we drive home excited to start our holiday creations and fill our home with the scent of Christmas. While there are many ways to use Frasier Fir branches (think swags, table runners, lantern arraignments, etc), one of my favorites is a fresh evergreen wreath. With just a couple of supplies, your front door can quickly become an invitation to join in the celebration of the season.
