5 Things I Loved About Munich During Our Look And See Trip

Stories. Stories are the backbone of nighttime rhythms as voices pass the time shooting the breeze. Growing up, and even still, my family loves to tell stories. Stories of funny memories, sweet blessings and car ride adventures. Stories of grandparents meeting, fond idyllic childhood remembrances and the ways God showed up in each of them. We tell them again and again and somehow, like a well worn shoe, they never grow old. It was through stories that I came to know and admire Germany. As Germany is the place where my grandparents met and my mom’s earliest memories were formed during my grandfather’s military station there, I grew up on stories of quaint German streets smelling of wurst, wooden sleighs in the snow and God’s protection through treacherous Alpine mountain driving. Now years later, those stories came to life as Charlie and I take on new German adventures. The countdown is on until we fully settle into this area to craft new stories, but this past week we were given a glimpse of what those might be. Sent on a “look and see” trip by Charlie’s company, we spent a week in Munich setting up bank accounts, house hunting and exploring our soon to be stomping grounds. While I could tell you of all the logistics and back end work to make these things come about (and I am happy too for sure – check out THIS recent post, drop a comment below or DM me on Instagram!), I want to share the first 5 things that I have loved about Munich, Germany during our look and see trip.

These next five things to love are not in any particular order, but are things that immediately stood out to me while experiencing this amazing culture for the first time. While you might not be thinking of moving abroad (or maybe you are!), these things are pieces you can…

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Year End Review

While the first week of 2023 has almost crept by, I wanted to dedicate a post to a year end review of our cooking through Magnolia Table Vol. 1 cookbook in a year journey. When I began this bucket list challenge a year ago, I had no idea the ups, downs, and general turns that 2022 would bring, but I have to say, I have been thrilled to have this cooking journey along the way.  My cookbook pages are splattered and my Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year Guide is worn with ratings, crinkled edges and marks of use, but each rating and splatter mark reminds me of the hours spent in the kitchen, Sunday dinners around the table, family gatherings, sweet neighbor interactions, laughs and JOY that came from this challenge. As I mentioned in our kick off post last year, this cooking through a cookbook journey was born out of a bucket list desire inspired by the movie….

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 51

Only 1 more week!! It truly feels surreal to think that we have almost cooked through the entire Magnolia Table cookbook, but here I am on December 26th staring at only 3 more recipes to go. This journey has been such a blessing and so much fun to experience with our friends and family. We started this year hoping to branch out, try new things and complete a bucket list item. Charlie, in his sweet spirit, was happy to try a plethora of dishes along the way and I can say now, almost finished, that we both have enjoyed this process so much. We have eaten in more frequently, spent more nights around the table with family and friends and truly invested in our culinary life in a way that bled into our hospitality, home and everyday decisions. This journey has been a gift and I am so grateful to have been able to try it. In this 51st week of cooking through Magnolia Table, we had the opportunity to make….

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 50

Week 50! With only 5 more recipes to try until our entire Magnolia Table cookbook is complete, I am in shock at how fast this year (and challenge!) has gone by. This week of cooking through Magnolia Table in a year brought us Roasted Elephant Garlic Bread (p.137), Baked Chicken With Bacon Bottom (p.221) and Spiced Pecan Pie (p.275). As we previously had tried the Baked Chicken With Bacon Bottom, I knew that we were in for a treat this week, however I did not realize how much we would enjoy trying the other recipes as well! Perfect for the holidays, this Spiced Pecan Pie is full of holiday flavors and is a twist on the classic southern dessert that graces many Christmas tables, so if you are looking for a last minute….

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 49

While week 49 brought us so many good recipes, it also brought our last Sunday dinner of 2022. When Charlie and I started this challenge, we wanted to encourage the “art of togetherness” while celebrating good food. So, to see a year later, the last Sunday dinner of our college siblings and their friends around our table rating recipes, laughing and enjoying each other’s company, it feels as if our cooking through Magnolia Table in a year challenge has been more of a success than just making it through a cookbook. This challenge has brought the “art of togetherness” and a very bittersweet feeling that we only have 8 more recipes to go until this journey is complete. Thankfully, while it may look different and won’t be spring boarded by Magnolia Table, this “art” does not have to stop in 2023. And just like the Sunday dinners, I am confident that the recipes of Jalapeno Drip Jam (p.83), Creamed Corn Spoonbread (p.187) and Gaines Family Chili (p.256) featured in week 49 will also….

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 47

5 weeks left! We officially have only  5 weeks to go until the recipes run out and our entire cooking through Magnolia Table challenge is complete. This week, being filled with Thanksgiving, brought us a tremendous amount of good food, including Joanna Gaines Chicken & Wild Rice Soup (p.105), Herbed Cheddar Scones (p.136) and Dulce De Leche Apple Pie (p.273). Thankfully, our Sunday dinner crew helped us enjoy these dishes as well so our leftovers have not….

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 46

Happy almost – Thanksgiving! It is crazy to think that in just 6 weeks we will be entering 2023 and will have fully completed our cooking through Magnolia Table in a year challenge. I am not sure about you all, but this year has been extremely memorable for my family and while not all the memories made this year are my favorites, the ones surrounding this challenge certainly are. I have been so thankful that this challenge has brought us so much laughter, fellowship and GOOD FOOD all while encouraging conversation and expanding our culinary horizons. This week of cooking through Magnolia Table was no different and our culinary horizons and mental aversions were most certainly challenged by the Roasted Cauliflower Soup (p.104) and White Bean Hummus (p.153)…..

Cooking Through Magnolia Table In A Year: Week 45

Week 45! It is crazy to think that we only have 7 more weeks and 18 recipes to go in our cooking through Magnolia Table in a year journey. This week brought us Souffleed Broccoli Casserole (p.171), Almond Chicken Tenderloins (p.211) and Mocha Trifle Cups (p.289). While only Charlie and I got to enjoy the broccoli casserole and chicken tenderloins, we did get to share the Mocha Trifle Cups with my family for a special treat and truly, they were such a hit, they have already been requested back for a Thanksgiving…
