Setting A Blue And White Table Just In Time For Easter

As blue and white is the classic design palette of many, it can be taken in a variety of directions: coastal, traditional, farmhouse, minimalist, chinoiserie. Regardless of the direction taken, the fresh blue and white tones evoke a crisp yet comforting palette that soothes the soul. Being inspired by such a flexible palette, I found that pairing these design options with pops of yellow was just the piece that I needed to prepare my Easter table. Heralding the resurrection of our Savior, Easter marks such a joyous occasion that, in my opinion, should have just as much celebration as Christmas. While not marked with specific colors such as red and green, the Easter season is full of soft pastels and cheerful spring tones. Noting this, I began pulling together a blue, white, and yellow scheme for the tablescape that I believe can be taken in many directions, while still preparing our hearts and our homes for Easter celebrations.

A Blue & White Base

To integrate the festive blue and white colors, I used a variety of pieces including a porcelain vase, planter, cake stand and paper dishware. While many tablescapes are uniform, creating a cluster of varied pieces all within the same color palette can be an easy way to use what you have on hand to create a great unique display. As I did not have a plethora of blue and white porcelain on hand, I mixed in fun paper plates and paper napkins that showcased orchids and ginger jars. Many people use their China for Easter, which I do love (check out this Easter tablescape set with China), however if you are having a large group (more than your China place settings), have concerns about young children with breakables or simply don’t want to worry about doing the dishes, finding an attractive paper plate or napkin set can be a wonderful way to introduce cheerful style to your Easter tablescape. Amazon, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Tuesday Morning and Target frequently have wonderful paper product sets and if you are wanting lots of wow factor, Coterie Party has all the paper goods you could ever desire.

Pops Of Yellow

To pull together the various tones of blue and white throughout the dishware and vases, I used yellow florals to create a connection point in each piece. You could use any color with the blue and white décor, however yellow is such a cheerful reminder of our new life in Christ, that I could not help but use this color. Likewise, I found that using a variety of vases led me to integrate a mix of yellow floral options. You certainly could use all the same flower throughout each vase, however I typically prefer creating a vignette that all pulls together through its color and varies in its size and texture.

Similarly, like the paper plates, you definitely don’t have to spend a fortune on your centerpiece. I picked up a couple of fresh flowers and lemons at our local grocery store and combined them with a few daffodils from my mom’s yard and a homemade cake. The emphasis should be on creating a beautiful table that celebrates those around it and embodies the joy brought by Christ’s resurrection, so feel free to create that by the means most preferable for you, whether that be the grocery store or the florist.

Personalization & Celebration

Lastly, add in a personal touch that celebrates the reason for the season. A sweet friend had given me place cards that attach to your drink and while they typically would be used for establishing a seating chart, I wrote sayings, songs or verses that drew attention back to Easter. This allows guests to choose their seat based on a card that most speaks to them and can help to spark conversation of such during your meal.

For this tablescape, I used:

  • He Is Risen (Worship Call and Response)
  • He Is Risen Indeed (Worship Call and Response)
  • Christ The Lord Is Risen Today (Hymn)
  • Raise Your Joy And Triumphs High (Hymn Verse)
  • In Christ Alone My Hope Is Found (Hymn)
  • He Is Not Here, He Is Risen (Matthew 28:6)

While I did a variety of call and response terms, songs and verses, you even could write one verse of a song on each card, so that the entire song is completed when going around the table. This idea is certainly transferrable to other holidays as well, but is especially applicable to Easter and Christmas when songs or saying are particularly abundant. Either way, my family has enjoyed the new way we approach seating placement, and it has provided conversation starters that celebrate the joy of the occasion.

Final Thoughts

I found this table display to be a wonderful conglomeration of colors, textures, sights, and smells that felt as cheerful and joyous as Easter should be. Perhaps you have been looking for a way to keep your mind and heart focused on the meaning of the season beyond the bunnies, Easter eggs and chocolates. Adding in a special note for each guest can be a sweet reminder of our celebration in the resurrection while enhancing a table designed with joy in mind.

Happy celebrating!

Chloe

Wow! Wow! Wow! Chloe, you make me homesick for a holiday I never even had. How beautiful and how nostalgic.

For what it is worth, I recently learned that Germans call Maundy Thursday “Grun Donnerstag” and they wear and decorate with green. Traditionally, “Grun Donnerstag” was a day of almsgiving and service to the poor or needy, in memory of Jesus washing his disciples feet before his passion began.

I wish I checked out your blog a little sooner, because I would like to use some of your ideas for the Easter Baskets. I love the idea of a big family Easter basket! And I would love to play your “How Well Do You Know Your Family” game. I’ll bet you have all had a lot of fun with that. I am going to search for the Jesus Storybook Bible coloring book too. Thanks so much for keeping your blog going. I think that you are getting better and better at this!
