I know what you are probably thinking… You see the title of this post and are wondering “is this even possible?!” And I have to say that yes, the idea of an item being both handcrafted AND affordable can seem like a conflicting statement at first glance. Normally, we assume that if an item, especially a light fixture, is handcrafted, it is much more of an investment. For many pieces, this is totally true! The time, labor, finishes and materials used are frequently of greater expense (and sometimes greater quality!) than an item that has been factory made. However, this is not always the case. After living in Europe for almost a year now, it has been incredible to see over and over again the handcrafted design elements within the architecture. Local churches, castles, public buildings and dwellings feature craftsmanship that has stood the test of time due to the materials, skill and detail required to create each detail. Fortunately for us, we still live in a world filled with immense talent, skill and materials which craftsmen amazingly develop into functional, quality works of art. Certainly, craftsmen should charge well for their materials and labor so, often, these pieces are of greater cost, but occasionally this is not so. Occasionally, we get suckered into the idea that an item is more budget friendly simply because it is on Amazon or another big box retailer. In this mindset, we forgo the research process altogether under the illusion that there is nothing out there that is both handcrafted and appropriate for a modest budget. Here to help take the extensive research out of the way for you, I wanted to create a post with the best of both worlds: a handcrafted AND affordable sconce roundup! All less than $150 a piece, these 15 sconces beautifully merge form, function, design interest and quality with many of them coming in a myriad of colors. Let’s dive right in!
