Only 1 more week!! It truly feels surreal to think that we have almost cooked through the entire Magnolia Table cookbook, but here I am on December 26th staring at only 3 more recipes to go. This journey has been such a blessing and so much fun to experience with our friends and family. We started this year hoping to branch out, try new things and complete a bucket list item. Charlie, in his sweet spirit, was happy to try a plethora of dishes along the way and I can say now, almost finished, that we both have enjoyed this process so much. We have eaten in more frequently, spent more nights around the table with family and friends and truly invested in our culinary life in a way that bled into our hospitality, home and everyday decisions. This journey has been a gift and I am so grateful to have been able to try it. In this 51st week of cooking through Magnolia Table, we had the opportunity to make White Cheddar Bisque (p.111) and Overnight French Toast (p.41), both of which were much enjoyed.

White Cheddar Bisque

As I absolutely love soup, I was thrilled to see that we were rounding out our year with the last soup recipe. With the bitter temperatures this week, soup was the perfect option to take the bite off the winter weather. Savory, creamy and very much like a potato soup without the potatoes, this White Cheddar Bisque was quite good. Serve it with crumbled bacon, crema fraiche, chives and thick bread as Joanna Gaines mentions and you will have an extremely cozy and comfortable meal.

Crowd Average Rating:

Coming in with a crowd average rating of 5, this White Cheddar Bisque was well enjoyed and certainly grew on me over time. While it wasn’t the favorite of some around our table, I found it to be an extremely comforting soup with all the flavors of a potato soup without the potatoes. I think that in the future, I would likely just make a potato soup instead as it has a bit more heartiness to it, however this soup is still quite tasty.

Overnight French Toast

As I mentioned with the various bread pudding recipes that we have tried this year, I have textural issues with recipes that involve soggy bread. That being said, I was a little concerned about trying this Overnight French Toast, however my fears were alleviated when trying the first bite. With a soft interior and crispy topping, this Overnight French Toast was sweet, delicious and very simple to make. If you are ever looking for a great overnight breakfast option, I would highly recommend checking this one out.

Crowd Average Rating:

This Overnight French Toast gained a crowd average rating of a 7! Sweet and flavorful, this breakfast casserole is very simple to pull together and even reheats very well. In future makings, I don’t think I would change a thing!
